Realm of Light

(Images follow article)

My advocation is serious part-time photography. My favorite kinds of photography to shoot are landscapes and outdoor adventure sports. However, I also like to take images of animals, plants, travel, aerial photography (taking pictures while flying my paraglider), people, portraits, and weddings. In other words, I'm very eccletic in my approach---it keeps things interesting.

Photography is both art and science. And since my vocation is science teacher, it is a perfect fit. The artist and the scientist in me are both satisfied when I capture a great image.

It has been said, and is very probable, that photography is the closest we can get to capturing time. I agree. Think of the physics of photography for a moment. Photons travel from a distance object as a wave and particle, having been either reflected, transmitted, or emitted, by the object as they come toward our eyes and the camera lense at the speed of light (300,000,000 m/s). When photons intersect the film, they leave behind a characteristic signature. In other words, something really does come from the object and into the camera, and is bent (refracted) to focus to a point on the film in the camera. Albert Einstein's theory of Special Relativity states that at the speed of light---time stands still. So, considering his theory, these photons travelling at the speed of light from the object are a frozen moment in time of that objects existance. Photons run into the film emulsion at very high speeds recording very precisely their position and characteristic, and yes, time is captured.
